UCQ launches a master’s course in nursing leadership

DOHA: The University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) has launched a new master’s program in nursing leadership.
Created in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the program is a direct result of collaboration with the nursing community in Qatar.
“The program was developed in response to demand from Qatari nurses seeking to equip themselves with the knowledge and training necessary to succeed in leadership positions,” said Dr. Kim Critchley, Dean and CEO of UCQ .
“The program focuses on developing leadership skills within the nursing profession in Qatar. We are proud to be able to deliver it and we thank the State for its support. The program will prepare skilled nursing professionals to drive the quality and good management of Qatar’s growing healthcare services. He will contribute directly to the human development of Qatar, because the eight students of his first class are Qatari. It is designed to further develop a national workforce capable of delivering high quality services and research.
Maytha Al Bouainain, Executive Director, Community Affairs and Patient Engagement, Hamad General Hospital, is a student in the program. “As a Qatari, it is important to me to raise and advance the professional standard of nursing in Qatar and globally. There are tremendous opportunities to develop the nursing profession through collaboration and education – this is what I aim to achieve by participating in the program. It will improve the skills of nursing professionals and ultimately patient care and health services as a whole, which will benefit the population of Qatar.
The launch coincided with the end of studies for UCQ’s first master’s degree in nursing class. Earn advanced degrees in oncology nursing and thesis-based research.
