Mykah J. Wright will graduate from ECSU as a Fall 2021 Alumnus with a Bachelor of Education. Ms. Wright is also a second lieutenant (2LT) in the military, and her commissioning ceremony took place on Friday, December 10, 2021.
LTC Robert Freeman, Professor of Military Sciences at ECSU, administered the Oath of Commissioned Officers of 2LT Wright. His mother and sister, younger Mashayla Wright, pinned the Gold-Bar rank to the uniform of the new 2LT Wright.
Upon graduation, 2LT Wright will take the Basic Officer Leadership Course from the Army Ordnance Corps, headquartered in Fort Lee, Va. She will learn and perform skills such as field maintenance, ammunition supply and management, and workload prioritization using automated management systems.
The mission of the US Army Ordnance Corps is to train, educate and develop the artillery professionals who lead change. Additionally, officers must be able to employ, develop and engineer DOTMLPF-P solutions to maintain military readiness, enabling the branch to win in multi-territory combat situations. (DOMTPLF-P stands for Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materials, Leadership, Personnel, Facilities and Policy.)
During his undergraduate experience at ECSU, 2LT Wright participated in numerous volunteer activities and contributed to the growth of the campus in a variety of ways:
- Was president of the upper class of the Student Government Association (SGA)
- Was a member of the National Council of Black Women (NCNW)
- Shared original poems and spoken at events on campus
- Served as an S4 officer in the Viking Battalion Army SROTC program
- Completed Full Cadet Troop Leader (CTLT) training in Germany
2LT Wright enjoys spending time with family and friends and laughing. His favorite script is John 16:33:
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation, distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have conquered the world. [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]”
If you see her with a smile on her face, that’s the reason. 2LT Wright was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up in Kansas City, KS and Raleigh, NC.
2LT Wright is the daughter of Trenda Woolridge and Taris Wright. She has an older brother, Malik, and a younger sister, Mashayla.
