Lambeth Council is set to spend £210,000 to send 30 middle managers on a leadership and management apprenticeship programme.
The deal with training provider Corndel Limited is £7,000 per middle manager. This is the maximum a training provider is allowed to charge for this program.
Councilor Andy Wilson, Cabinet Member for Finance and Performance, was asked to sign the report on the provision of the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management Learning.
This is a pilot project for the Council. Each middle manager will follow a 13-month course. This is the shortest time allowed to provide training leading to the Level 5 diploma.
If either manager fails, Lambeth will pay an additional £350 per participant for a re-take. The Board says the scheme will reduce staff turnover.
In February last year, 436 council workers had annual salaries of £50,000 or more. Brixton Buzz reported that 24 employees had been paid £100,000 or more. Chief executive Andrew Travers was rewarded with a salary of £185,000.
