INDIANA (WTWO / WAWV) – Ivy Tech Community College announced on Thursday that it will begin offering a new certificate on January 1, 2022 in Applied Studies of Organizational Leadership to provide companies with short-term training for new managers, leaders of ‘team and other leadership roles.
The certificate, according to a press release, provides “hands-on, industry-specific training in the technical and soft skills required not only to lead teams, but to help lead organizational growth.”
“The pandemic has resulted in a shrinking workforce in many industries, and companies have promoted or hired new employees who may have technical skills but lack leadership skills,” said Sarah Shepler, president of the Ivy Tech’s business administration program. “Through statewide research, Ivy Tech has discovered that our industry partners need employees to develop skills beyond day-to-day management. They need their employees to learn strategic leadership skills to move their organizations forward, get through times of turmoil, and help develop other employees. Ivy Tech’s new AOLS certificate will prepare students to help their organization grow.
The AOLS program was designed to meet the needs of employers in career fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, and service industries.
“A nurse promoted to a responsible nurse, a CNC operator promoted to a supervisor, or a food service worker promoted to a managerial position are all examples of positions that could benefit from leadership training,” Shepler added.
Participants in the AOLS program will receive one-on-one training specific to their industry and may have the option of receiving job-specific training. Classes will be offered in a “blended format” with face-to-face meetings once a week and an online component that students can take on their own time.
Students who start the AOLS program in January 2022 can complete it at the end of July. Financial assistance is available to eligible individuals.
Companies interested in having their employees participate in the AOLS program can partner with Ivy Tech to eliminate all upfront employee costs through the Achieve Your Degree program. Through this partnership, Ivy Tech will defer all tuition fees until the end of the semester, and students will only owe what is not covered by their company’s financial aid or educational benefits plan.
Companies interested in offering the AOLS certificate to their employees should contact Rod Dowell at (812) 298-2492 or [email protected] Those interested in learning more should contact Ivy Tech Terre Haute at ivytech.edu/visitus and ask about the AOLS program.
