Granville Auditor Completes Leadership Training Program at UNC | Characteristics

OXFORD – Monique Heggie, Internal Auditor for the Granville County Government, completed the Leading for Results program at the UNC School of Government as a member of the Federal Government Credit Union Fellow.

Heggie was among 120 candidates to apply in a competitive selection process and was one of 24 participants selected to participate in the leadership training program.

The Leading for Results program focuses on personal and professional development while introducing participants to management and leadership tools and strategies. Fellows of Federal Local Government Credit Unions have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their leadership styles and strengths while practicing ways to improve efficiency within their organizations.

As Granville County’s internal auditor, Heggie helps management staff assess the effectiveness of operations, while ensuring the county has an effective operating system of internal controls. His responsibilities also include ensuring that departments and employees follow appropriate policies and procedures through reviews and assessments.

“The scholarship program allowed me to engage and learn from other government officials with different careers across the state,” Heggie said of his experience. “My main takeaway was that ‘leadership is an action, not a position.’ Overall it was a very positive experience.

Heggie successfully completed the leadership program on October 15.
