The University of Victoria announced the opening of a United Nations Leadership Training Center on campus on Tuesday, March 22.
Officially known as the International Center for the Training of Authorities and Leaders – its French acronym is CIFAL – it was created in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
The training center is the first of its kind on the west coast of North America and only the second in Canada.
CIFAL Victoria, guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, will connect the region to the global community of UN training centers and support international knowledge sharing, a statement said.
The four key areas for the center to focus on are oceans, climate and sustainability; Innovation and Entrepreneurship; decolonization and indigenous knowledge, and global health and well-being.
“We will support work towards the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and empower individuals, communities, businesses and organizations to effectively address global challenges and improve well-being,” said the director. by CIFAL Victoria, Catherine Krull.
CIFAL Victoria is one of 24 United Nations training centers for government authorities around the world.
