Digital Leadership is a new course for senior officials who are not currently working in a digital, data and technology (DDaT) role or who have a technology background.
Its aim is to give public sector leaders insight into the critical role they play in supporting and governing digital transformation programs, while demystifying digital jargon and ways of working.
This is a highly interactive course comprising 6.5 hours of training. It is delivered online in two half-day sessions. This course is usually delivered via Zoom. You are welcome to use a personal device to register; all content is unclassified and there is no need to download any software or information.
The course covers the standards to which digital services teams adhere and explores the challenge of maintaining oversight and accountability for teams working in an agile manner. It gives delegates an overview of the government’s current digital priorities through 2030.
All course content is policy- and data-driven and sourced from or validated by senior members of the DDaT profession in 30 government organizations. It has been rigorously tested on SCS. The case studies and examples come exclusively from the public sector.
Course aims and objectives
This course outlines key government digital priorities and standards, allowing participants to gauge their current level of awareness, ask questions, and identify knowledge gaps. It defines key leadership behaviors that support excellence in digital service design and agile delivery.

Agile for leaders
The 4 things leaders need to know to work agile and how to overcome cultural, governance and reporting challenges. NB this course does not teach the Scrum framework or any other methodology, but rather provides an overview of how agile working methods support public service design.
All modules include UK public sector examples and case studies, many of which are unique to this course and have been recorded specifically for this course.
This course is primarily aimed at Central Administration SCS (SCS level 1 and above) working outside the digital function or who are new to administration. Additionally, cohorts from local authorities and public sector health organizations have found it beneficial as well as independent bodies, but should be aware that the examples and standards used in the course are those applied in central government .
The course provides 6.5 hours of learning over 2 consecutive days. Sessions usually take place from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The first 15 minutes of each day are dedicated to technology integration, as classes are hosted on Zoom and use interactive Mural and Slido tools. Full instructions and test boards will be provided in advance.
The 6.5 hour course costs £460 plus VAT per person. You must have an order form before requesting a place on the course.
