A first-ever organizational strengthening and leadership training was organized for women leaders from nine villages in Nasavusavu District, Cakaudrove, aimed at improving women’s organizational and leadership skills.

The August 31 organizational strengthening project training involved leadership empowerment training for all female group leaders and leaders in the nine villages of Nasavusavu District.

Ten similar training sessions are planned for women in the 134 villages of the 15 districts of the province in order to better equip them.

The chairman, Adi Salaseini Kavu Fong, said the training was aimed at encouraging women with good leadership skills to be able to organize and manage their group activities properly.

The project was funded by the Australian Volunteers Impact Fund.

Ms. Fong acknowledged the support and felt the organization was a blessing to the empowerment process.

“Good leadership qualities will lead to a dynamic and active woman in the rural villages of the province, thus triggering socio-economic development,” she said.

The Treasurer of the Yaroi Village Women’s Group, Merelita, was grateful for the leadership session.

She said the skills learned during the training will be used to develop young leaders and increase women’s representation in community or village decision-making.

Another female leader, Maraia, shared similar sentiments and said she would incorporate some of these skills and qualities of transparency into their church and village committees.

These women group leaders (president, secretary and treasurers) are part of the provincial council group Soqosoqo Vakamarama Itaukei Cakaudrove.
